Skolling!

For Aussies: I do respect skolling traditions, even though I still do not quite understand it!

For everyone else who have not heard about it: skolling is a significant tradition of the culture of AIESEC Australia. I guess its imporatance can be easily proved when reading the chapter about skolling in the compendium of AIESEC Australia. It goes like this...each LC in the national conference as well MC is allowed to set a group of four people who would be compeeting in the national skolling competion!
Teams compete by drinking light beer - the winners are the fastest beer drinkers. During the competition the next team members is not allowed to start drinking his glass of beer until his provious team mate has emptied his glass. Teams are punished if the beer is spilled. The team that wins usually goes through around 4 to 5 rounds competing against different team every time.

The best part - during this July Con National committee won the CUP! That means we are the best beer drinkers in the organization for the time beeing! However we are up to the challange to prove this title during the next national conference in January.

My contribution...well I was very supportive towards my team members who were in the competition!

July national conference of AIESEC Australia took place in Qeensland, Sunshine Coast, a month ago. I guess it is worth mentioning JulyCon as it took our team a month to prepare for it.
At the end of the day I really enjoyed the conference: australians seems to be an engaging, smart and active crowd to work with. Even though I had facilitated a number of conference this one really got me worried and anxious at first. I never actually realized how much confidence gives you the fact that you know your audience. This time I didn't... So I spent a lot of time before the conference trying to understand what kind of people australians are and what things get them engaged and interested. I guess this reflection grew my respect to people who are travelling around the world and are giving speaches, trainings and sessions for people from different cultures and societies. It also got me thinking about communication in general... is it possible for one person to inspire any audience in any part of the world? One thing is for sure though...sence of humour is definetely something that conects people, but what else?
Anyway, July Con was a five day conference with a 'developing leaders day' which opened the conference. 120 australian AIESECers joined us for this experience. It was great to know the new generation of AIESEC members (as it is the first national conference for new members), to hear some stories from the past and get inspired with the work that is awaiting!

Ruth, Mel, Chena, Kyle, Martin, Ralph - great job ! Was a pleasure to work with you as a team of facilitators!

Arriving to Australia,

Well exactly or almost 16 days ago I arrived to Australia.

I am here to work for AIESEC Australia and I'll be around for 13 months.

I am working with 6 great individuals, who's names are: Ralph, Ruth, Mel mel (Melissa), Martin, Kyle, Michael (aka Chena) and if you lucky I'll tell about them more later on.

Currently I spend a lot of time in the office, though I am lucky to have great weekends.
My first weekend was all about conquering a 700 meters hight mountain - and I ended up with my butt in a puddle. However I did get my butt to the top:D
It was a great 4 hours trip climbing up and down the mountain with great sceneries and great people around. As for puddle ...I was just trying to save my shoes:) so I guess it's all about
priorities.
